This week, the leadership team for Global Dignity, gathered in Oslo for the 5th annual Global Dignity Country Chair meeting. Joining the co-founders of Global Dignity, HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Professor Pekka Himanen and John Hope Bryant, were Country Chairs as well as our special advisors and organizational partners that represented 14 different countries.
To start the meeting, a dignity day session was held at KG Upper Secondary School, which was Crown Prince Haakon’s old school. The Global Dignity leadership team served as facilitators for the event, and shared with the students their stories of dignity. It was an amazing session and the students had great stories of dignity themselves including a few students who have done volunteer service at a local nursing home, a young man who helped a lost gentleman find the train station that was a few blocks away and walked with him to the station, and a young woman who stepped in and said something when another student was being picked on.
Following the Dignity Day session, the team returned back feeling fully inspired to begin the strategic planning portion of the meeting. The team is excited about the growth of the organization, which began in 2005, and held it’s first dignity day session with 11 countries in 2008. Global Dignity Day 2014 reached more than 60 countries and 350,000 youth! After a day and a half of great dialogue and workshops the team is positive Global Dignity Day 2015 will be a huge success.
